We design machines and products, make their technology understandable in animations and films, and develop 3D configurators and web apps that let your customers explore them on their own. Based in Stuttgart since 1994, our team of 25 works for machine and plant builders, medical technology companies and industrial clients. We design products and machines, explain technology in moving images and develop digital applications. We also develop brand identities. Each service has a dedicated point of contact.
Industrial and product design
Your machine or product should be easy to operate, express your brand and remain economical to manufacture. We design from the first sketch to series production: design language, operating concepts and HMI, material and manufacturing decisions. With CAD modelling, pre-engineering and feasibility analyses, we work with your production team to make sure the design remains producible.
3D animation and industrial film
Your new plant needs to win people over before it is built. From CAD data, layouts and presentations we create a film that shows how a paint shop or an entire factory will operate and what it delivers. Nothing needs to exist yet – you just explain the plant to us. This gives you visuals for pitches, trade fairs or sales that show what slides can only claim. We develop story, storyboard and visual style with you, from photorealistic 3D animation to 2D motion graphics.
3D configurators, web apps and websites
A product with many variants or a complex process tends to generate a lot of questions. We develop 3D product configurators, web apps and websites that let your customers and employees find the right answer on their own. We test usability in advance with clickable prototypes and prepare large data sets, from the ERP system to the 3D model of a plant, for the browser. After launch, we operate and monitor the applications on servers in the EU.
Communication and brand identity
Several companies or locations should appear as one brand. We develop positioning, corporate design and communication materials, from the website to print. For the Auxilium group, we developed a shared brand identity for 14 companies.
What do you gain when several services come together?
When product, operation and communication are created in one studio, you explain your project once instead of several times. Our team already knows the technology and the goals when the next step begins.
One briefing instead of several: goals, target group and technical details do not have to be explained to each service provider again.
Consistent data: CAD data from engineering flows directly into renderings, animations or a configurator.
One appearance: product, user interface and film follow the same design rules.
Less coordination for you: we align the disciplines with each other instead of your team mediating between several service providers.
Ready earlier: renderings and film can be created while the product is still in development and are ready at launch.
Example: medienBuddy for Hohenloher
Hohenloher, which equips schools with lab and classroom furniture, wanted to free science lessons from fixed lab workstations. The result was the medienBuddy, a mobile module that brings electricity and gas directly to the table. We contributed interviews with teachers, learners and education providers, the product design, the engineering up to the prototype, the user interface, the product renderings and the launch film.
For Hohenloher this meant: our team was already familiar with the topic at every step, and the engineering data could easily be reused for renderings and film. The medienBuddy won Gold at Focus Open 2024 and the German Innovation Award 2024.
How does a project with UP Designstudio work?
Most clients come to us with a challenge, not a finished solution. We first understand the problem, then develop several approaches, test the best ones and implement the chosen path together with you.
Understand the challenge We clarify what needs to be solved, for whom and with which message. That can be the technical package of a new device, the core message of a trade fair film or a sales consultation that takes too long today.
Open up the solution space We research what already exists on the market and develop approaches in different directions: sketches for a machine housing, storyboards in different visual styles, alternative operating concepts for an app.
Test and narrow down We make selected approaches tangible as a functional prototype, click dummy or first animation preview. This way you decide on a solid basis before anything is fully developed.
Develop and implement We bring the chosen solution to series production, to the finished film or to launch. On request, we operate and further develop digital applications.

What does UP Designstudio do?
UP Designstudio is a design studio in Stuttgart with 25 people, founded in 1994. We offer industrial and product design, 3D animations and industrial films, 3D configurators, web apps and websites as well as brand identities, mainly for technical products.
Do you also work with our in-house agency or development team?
Yes, that's how we usually work. We come in when specialist knowledge is needed or you need to handle peak workloads, for example for a housing around an existing technical package or a video for an existing product. We get up to speed quickly and deliver results your team can continue working with directly.
Which industries do you work for?
Mainly for mechanical and plant engineering, for example for Liebherr, GROB, Wafios, Nagel and Dürr. We also work in medical technology and healthcare (KLS Martin, Küschall, Deutsches Herzzentrum München), chemicals (BASF), education (Hohenloher) and consumer and office products (Leitz, Lamy, Playmobil, Schleich).
